Captain's Bio

Capt. George Harris, a native of midcoast, Maine. George now resides nearby in the "WILD'S OF WARREN", on the banks of the St. George river. Capt. George became a saltwater angler at a very young age, quickly becoming addicted to the sport. Fishing eastern Casco Bay, the waters around Cundys Harbor, Sebasco and Popham Beach all became his playground. As a youngster, Capt. George was dubbed by much of the New England press, "a modern day Tom Sawyer" for his on the water "raft fishing" exploits!!!

Capt. George's obsession turned into profession after moving south to Florida where he honed his skills, prowling the beaches, flats & mangrove shorelines of Pine Island Sound, Tampa Bay & Gulf of Mexico fishing for Redfish, Snook & Tarpon, spending over 250 days each year on the water. An avid SCUBA & Breathhold "free" diver, Capt. George also spent considerable time underwater pursuing underwater giants like Grouper, Amberjack & Kingfish with the speargun!!!

With the amazing Striped Bass resurgence, Capt. George migrated back to his home waters to guide for Stripers, Bluefish & Tuna off coastal Maine. During his "offseason" Capt. George gives saltwater fly-tying seminars and spends time traveling to the tropical waters of the Bahamas and Florida Key's to pursue one of his favorite pastime's... sight casting to Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon and other flats species.

Capt. George is a Registered Maine Tidewater Guide, USCG 100 ton Master Capt, I.G.F.A. Certified Captain, Member of CCA Maine, Trout Unlimited & serves on the Board of Directors for the Maine Assoc. of Charter Captains. Capt. George has over Twenty Five years experience fishing the waters of mid-coast Maine!!!

StriperThe Season
Starting in late May, the coast of Maine is invaded by a "thousand mile long convoy" of ravenous Striped Bass that pour into the numerous coastal rivers and bays to feed on the vast schools of bait fish. June offers nearly non-stop action with "schoolie" Stripers in the 18-30 inch range. By July, Bluefish join the fray with amazing surface "blitzes" that churn the waters. Huge Striped Bass lie in deep rips attacking any bait that passes by. August sees the arrival of "football" Bluefin Tuna, in the 50 to 200 pound range that crash into hapless bait balls on the surface of near shore waters with action that lasts through the Fall. September - October offers unbelievable action on Striper, Bluefish, and "Football" Tuna as acres and acres of fish gorge themselves on Peanut Bunker, Herring, Sandeels and Atlantic Mackerel; to fatten-up as the first cold fronts of autumn send these game fish off on their southerly migration.
